Benson Boone’s Grammys performance had everything—a hit song, raw emotion, and one very public battle between his skintight jumpsuit and his personal space.
The 22-year-old singer hit the stage Sunday night (Feb. 2) to belt out his smash hit Beautiful Things. The audience was captivated, the moment was magical… and then, disaster struck. The jumpsuit, clearly designed by someone who has never experienced lower-body circulation, launched a full-scale attack on Benson’s comfort. Naturally, he fought back—with an emergency crotch grab that was immediately caught on camera and beamed to millions.
Realizing that the world had just witnessed him wrestling with his own pants, Benson took to his Instagram Story later that night to clear the air (and his dignity).
“Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight,” he confessed, pairing the apology with a casual, shirtless bed selfie—because, if you’re going to apologize, at least look good doing it. “That thing was extremely restricting in certain areas.”
(Certain areas being: the danger zone. The Bermuda Triangle of tight clothing. The region of great discomfort.)
To be fair, Benson had already hinted that his nerves were through the roof before hitting the stage. Chatting with People on the red carpet, he admitted, “As you can tell, there’s a lot of energy flowing through my body right now.”
Unfortunately, that energy did not make it to his lower half.
He continued, “This is very crazy for me. There’s a lot of cool people here. I’m really excited to perform. I’m kind of like… crapping my pants right now.”
And while he may have survived without an actual wardrobe malfunction, the jumpsuit incident will go down in Grammy history as one of the most unexpected battles between man and fabric.
Godspeed, Benson. May your future outfits be less restrictive and more forgiving.
