“Dark Matter” is officially back for round two! That’s right, the mind-boggling, reality-bending, “what-on-Earth-is-happening” sci-fi series starring the ever-brooding Joel Edgerton and the eternally elegant Jennifer Connelly has been renewed for a second season by none other than Apple TV+.
Season one, which premiered back in May and promptly wrapped up in June (because apparently, even alternate realities have deadlines), left fans clinging to their couches and wondering if their microwaves could open portals to parallel universes.
For the uninitiated (or those who took a wrong turn in the multiverse), here’s the scoop: “Dark Matter,” hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade (or possibly in all the dimensions combined), tells the tale of Jason Dessen. Jason is your everyday physicist, professor, and family man—until he takes a leisurely stroll down a Chicago street one fateful night. Instead of enjoying a peaceful walk, Jason is whisked away to an alternate version of his life, where he’s forced to face his greatest enemy: himself. Yes, you read that right. Apparently, the only thing scarier than alternate dimensions is meeting a version of yourself who’s way better at folding laundry.
Blake Crouch, the evil genius behind the original novel and the show’s creator, is now tasked with pulling more mind-blowing material out of his multiverse-hopping hat for season two. No pressure, Blake—just keep unraveling the fabric of space-time as we know it.
“We’ve struck gold—or perhaps dark matter—with this show,” said Matt Cherniss, head honcho of programming at Apple TV+, while probably sipping coffee from a mug that says “I Love Parallel Universes.” “The first season left everyone questioning their reality, and we can’t wait to collaborate with Blake and the rest of the team to cook up even more twists, turns, and ‘what-the-heck’ moments for season two.”
So, buckle up, sci-fi fans! The multiverse is about to get even wilder, and if season one was any indication, we’re all in for a ride that’s stranger than a physicist’s grocery list. Stay tuned, and maybe don’t trust your reflection in the mirror—just in case.
