Amy Adams is stepping into some seriously stormy waters! The six-time Oscar nominee has just signed on to star in Apple TV+’s upcoming Cape Fear series, because apparently, her life wasn’t stressful enough already.
Amy will be joining the Javier Bardem—yes, the man who made No Country for Old Men so terrifying that people started double-locking their doors. The show, which Apple ordered for 10 episodes last November, is based on The Executioners, a novel by John D. MacDonald. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it inspired not one, but two Cape Fear movies—one in 1962 starring Gregory Peck, and another in 1991 where Robert De Niro’s Southern accent was somehow scarier than the actual violence.
So what’s the deal with this new version? Well, Apple’s official logline gives us a taste of the chaos: “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.” Translation: This couple’s biggest problem used to be deciding whose turn it was to empty the dishwasher. Now, it’s not getting murdered by Javier Bardem.
Will Amy’s character outsmart the killer? Will Javier Bardem’s villain make us question our life choices? Will Apple TV+ finally give us something besides Ted Lasso-related content? Only time will tell!
