It turns out that America’s Funniest Home Videos host Alfonso Ribeiro is starring in his own “America’s Most Painful Home Video”—and it all went down at Disney World. The 53-year-old was in the middle of a dance number for an ABC holiday special when he took a misstep that was about as graceful as Goofy on a banana peel. According to TMZ, Alfonso’s holiday spirit got derailed—literally—when he stepped smack dab on a trolley rail and went full ankle-acrobatics.
In footage that’s gone viral (because of course it did), Alfonso looks like he’s about to do some next-level moves… until he isn’t. Leaning on Dancing with the Stars co-host Julianne Hough, he gave off major “I’ll just lean here and pretend I’m fine” vibes, trying not to put weight on what is now the Most Famous Ankle in Showbiz. A quick-thinking crew member hustled over with a folding chair, giving Alfonso a place to sit smack in the middle of the Disney street like he was waiting for a parade that was definitely not happening.
The cameras caught it all as Alfonso tried to shake off the injury, and you can practically see him thinking, “Not at Disney, of all places!” Spoiler alert: shaking it off didn’t help. So, he did what any celebrity would do in this situation—ditched the street chair for a more fabulous ride in a wheelchair, getting rolled off to a huge round of applause from the crowd, who clearly came for a show and got one.
But the plot thickened! As if things couldn’t get any worse, poor Alfonso reportedly made a pit stop… at a trashcan. Maybe it was the pain, maybe it was the sheer humiliation of wiping out in front of Mickey Mouse, but TMZ reports that he got sick right there in true “when life gives you lemons” style.
Despite the chaos, a source tells TMZ that it’s just a minor ankle injury, and the holiday special will go on, hitting ABC on Christmas Day. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery, and that Alfonso’s ankle gets its own special shout-out in the credits.
