Troye Sivan, international pop prince and CEO of Soft Boy Energy™, has officially teamed up with Grindr—the dating app that’s 50% thirst traps, 30% “looking for friends,” and 20% existential crises—for their latest campaign, “Tap or Block.”
At the ripe age of 29 (which in twink years is practically a senior citizen), Troye was crowned Grindr Unwrapped’s Babygirl of the Year 2024. An honor that, quite frankly, should come with a sash and a free espresso martini. To celebrate, he gathered his backup dancers for an absolutely unhinged game of swipe left or right—but make it gayer.
The Campaign: Because Grindr Knows No Chill
Grindr wants to lead “authentic conversations about queer sex, dating, and hook-up culture”—which, translated from PR-speak, means they’re ready to embrace the chaotic, sometimes messy, but always iconic realities of modern dating.
“Dating and hooking up can be complex, sexy, messy, intoxicating, and confusing,” Troye said in a statement, listing off what could also double as the plot of any HBO show. “I love how Grindr and this campaign celebrate all of this with humor, honesty, and through community.”
The Game: Swipe, Tap, or Full-On Block?
Troye and his dancers—Mauro, Simone, Benjamin, Theo, Samuel, and Ainsley (who sound like they could either be a boy band or a law firm)—were given a series of spicy situations. Their job? Decide whether they would “tap” (aka, like) or “block” (aka, run for the hills).
Some of the pressing, life-altering questions included:
✅ Hotel sex – Because what’s a tour without some extracurricular activities?
🚫 Unshowered gym bodies – Some like it steamy. Others like it… soapy.
🤷 Body hair dilemmas – To manscape or not to manscape? That is the question.
🔥 Foreplay – A necessary appetizer before the main course.
🚩 Having “masc” in bio – Is it a preference or a personality trait? (Discuss.)
Naturally, chaos and cackling ensued. If you’ve ever wanted to witness Troye Sivan and his dancers debate thirst traps with the seriousness of a Supreme Court case, this video is for you.
Check it out now—and maybe reconsider your own Grindr bio choices while you’re at it.
