Tom Holland, our favorite web-slinger turned runaway-lawyer-heartthrob, is back in action! The 28-year-old superstar has decided to shake things up by starring in The Partner, a movie adaptation of John Grisham’s novel. That’s right, Tom’s trading in his Spidey suit for a legal briefcase and some fiery car explosions. Classic upgrade.
But wait, there’s more! This is Tom’s first project since he put a ring on it and proposed to the one and only Zendaya over the holidays. No pressure, Tom, but the world will absolutely be watching your every move now.
The film, which Universal is cooking up, will have Tom not just starring but also producing. Because why take a nap when you can be both in front of and behind the camera? And for the icing on this drama-filled cake, Graham Moore (The Imitation Game) is writing the script. So expect lots of intense staring, plot twists, and probably some moments where Tom looks very stressed in a suit.
Now, About the Plot—Buckle Up!
Tom will play Patrick Lanigan, a lawyer who is apparently over his entire life. Instead of filing for a career change like a normal person, Patrick decides to go big. He fakes his own death in a burning car (very subtle, Patrick) and leaves behind a wife, a newborn, and enough secrets to fuel a season of The Real Housewives. Oh, and just to spice things up, he also steals $90 million from his shady law firm because… YOLO?
Naturally, Patrick ditches the chaos and heads to South America, where he lives his best life sipping margaritas and living like someone who didn’t just leave his entire family wondering what happened to him. But karma has other plans. The client he scammed (who also happens to be a government-defrauding mastermind—no big deal) isn’t about to let $90 million just disappear. Cue the very angry manhunt.
Patrick’s only option? Turn himself in to the FBI and face his long-abandoned wife, child, and all the awkward conversations that come with pretending to be dead. Talk about family drama!
Between the romance, the action, and Tom Holland somehow making us root for a lawyer who literally faked his death, The Partner is shaping up to be the movie to watch. And let’s be honest, if anyone can make a morally questionable character charming, it’s Tom Holland.
Your move, Oscars.
