Listen, some people meet and instantly become besties. Others? They need a casual decade and a half to warm up.
Case in point: Tina Fey and Steve Carell, who starred together in Date Night back in 2010. You’d think pretending to be married while being chased by gangsters would bond people, but nope. According to Tina, they spent that entire movie sitting next to each other like two anxious kids at a middle school dance.
“Steve Carell and I made a whole movie together without ever actually talking like real humans because we’re both basically shy forest creatures,” Tina, 54, confessed to IconicHipster.com.
Apparently, if no one forcibly introduced them like, “Tina, this is Steve. Steve, this is Tina. Now shake hands like big kids,” they would just sit there in polite, soul-crushing silence. Peak introvert behavior.
But good news: 15 years and one Netflix show later, they finally broke through the emotional ice! While working on The Four Seasons, Tina says they’ve officially graduated to actual friends.
At the show’s premiere, Steve confirmed the miracle:
“It only took 15 years for us to become super tight besties,” he said, probably while looking a little uncomfortable because, again, shy gang.
Steve explained their mutual shyness like this: “I’d be like, ‘Should I text her? Nah, she’s probably wrangling kids or winning Emmys or fighting off a bear or something.’ And she was apparently thinking the same about me.”
Basically, these two have been playing an unspoken game of “You Hang Up First” for 15 YEARS. But now? They’re texting, calling, maybe even sending memes. True friendship unlocked.
Final verdict?
Tina: “He’s the best.”
Steve: “She’s the best.”
Us: Crying in introvert.
