Lana Del Rey isn’t officially listed on The Weeknd’s brand-spanking-new album Hurry Up Tomorrow, but guess what? She’s there. Oh, she’s so there. Like a mystical ghost, she blesses his track “The Abyss” with her signature celestial “hey-hey, oh-oh” in the most Lana way possible—ethereal, slightly haunted, and absolutely necessary.
She doesn’t stop there, though. Oh no, she joins Abel (The Weeknd, for those new here) in the outro, adding to the song’s dramatic, end-of-the-world vibes. Because if there’s one thing these two know how to do, it’s making existential crises sound absolutely gorgeous.
Speaking of existential dread, The Weeknd really leans into it with lyrics like:
“Let me close my eyes with dignity / Let’s end it all, the world’s not far behind / So what’s the point of staying? / It’s going up in flames, I know / Yes, I know, ooh.”
Translation: Everything is burning, life is chaos, but hey—at least we’ve got bangers.
This album is the final piece of his deeply personal trilogy that started with After Hours (aka “I’m sad, but make it sexy”) and Dawn FM (aka “I’m still sad, but now there’s a radio DJ guiding me through the pain”). And to make things even spicier, The Weeknd is turning Hurry Up Tomorrow into a movie—because why stop at emotional destruction when you can also give us cinematic trauma? Starring Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, this film will drop into theaters on May 16, so mark your calendars (and maybe book a therapy session in advance).
Anyway, listen to “The Abyss” below and download it on iTunes. Because if the world is ending, you might as well have a good soundtrack.
