So apparently, Coachella 2025 wasn’t just about flower crowns, questionable hydration levels, and neon cowboy hats this year—nope. It was also the surprise stage for the most unexpected buddy duo since Shrek and Donkey: The Weeknd (aka Abel “Why is he always in character?” Tesfaye) and Jenna Ortega (aka Wednesday Addams’ cooler cousin).
The two were spotted casually living their best promotional lives on the ferris wheel, because nothing screams “watch our existential fever dream of a movie” like spinning 100 feet in the air while making eye contact with strangers holding overpriced acai bowls.
They’re promoting their new movie Hurry Up Tomorrow, which sounds like what you yell at your Uber driver when you’re late for brunch, but is actually a deep, artsy film where a sleep-deprived musician goes on a weird, trippy journey with a mysterious stranger who basically rewires his entire personality. So, you know, your typical indie-romance-sci-fi-thriller-horror-musical vibe.
Also starring in this cinematic ride through the twilight zone is Barry Keoghan, because of course he is. If there’s a movie where someone questions reality, Barry is legally obligated to appear and stare into your soul.
Mark your calendars (and maybe your foreheads) for May 16th, when Hurry Up Tomorrow hits theaters and probably your emotional stability. But wait, there’s more! The film comes with a whole album, because when Abel Tesfaye commits to a cinematic universe, he COMMITS. It’s the grand finale of a trilogy that started with After Hours, continued with Dawn FM, and now concludes with Hurry Up Tomorrow, aka “Insomnia: The Musical.”
Jenna and Abel were also spotted earlier this month at CinemaCon 2025, where they dropped a new trailer that probably left viewers feeling equal parts intrigued and deeply confused (in a good way).
Moral of the story: If you weren’t at Coachella, riding the ferris wheel with The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega while contemplating the nature of reality and your Spotify playlist… were you even doing Coachella right?
