Guess who’s about to make your next TV binge a juicy, sun-soaked, murder-filled mess? That’s right — vampire slayer turned drama slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar is back! And this time, she’s not just starring — she’s also executive producing, because apparently she does it all (except relax, like the rest of us on vacation).
In news that dropped hotter than Fire Island pavement in July, Sarah Michelle Gellar will be headlining the upcoming TV adaptation of Emma Rosenblum’s hit novel Bad Summer People. Think The White Lotus, but with more dead bodies, mean girls in linen, and passive-aggressive brunches.
Set in the totally not real but extremely scandalous town of Salcombe on Fire Island, the series follows a group of rich-ish, tan-ish, secretly-evil besties who spend their summers together like it’s an Olympic sport — until, oops, someone turns up dead near the boardwalk (cue dramatic sunglasses removal and gasp).
At the center of the chaos are Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker, two frenemies so toxic they make Regina George look like a team player. Along with their emotionally unavailable husbands, Sam and Jason, they’ve been fake-laughing at each other’s jokes for years — but this summer, all the dirty secrets, ancient grudges, and probably at least one dramatic poolside slap are coming to light. It’s giving Real Housewives meets CSI: Beach Edition.
Behind the scenes, we’ve got Cara DiPaolo writing and executive producing this chaos buffet, with Linden Productions and A+E Studios stirring the pot. They’re developing the show internally before shopping it around to networks — aka, a bunch of execs are currently fighting over who gets to host the most stylish murder mystery of the summer.
So grab your rosé, your sunglasses, and your alibis — because Sarah Michelle Gellar is coming to ruin summer in the best way possible. 🌴💀📺
