The 2025 SAG Awards nominations announcement was supposed to be a dazzling event, but Mother Nature decided to throw a raging party of her own, complete with wildfires and fierce wind conditions. As a result, the live announcement was poof! canceled faster than you can say, “And the nominees are…”
Joey King (nominee-turned-almost-announcer) and Cooper Koch were all set to drop this year’s nominees live on Netflix’s YouTube channel on Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. PT. But alas, Los Angeles decided it was time for a fiery plot twist. Late Tuesday night, SAG Awards organizers nixed the event, citing safety concerns. Translation: “We’re not about to risk anyone getting roasted—literally—for a nominations announcement.”
Here’s the official buzzkill statement from SAG Awards HQ:
“In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been canceled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles. Nominees will be unveiled tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. PT via press release and the SAG Awards website. We look forward to celebrating these incredible actors and their work at the SAG Awards ceremony on February 23. In the meantime, we urge everyone to stay safe.”
Translation: “We’ll still tell you who’s nominated, but you’ll have to settle for a press release instead of the Joey King show. Also, if you’re in LA, maybe grab a fire extinguisher on your way to work.”
So, while fans will have to wait for the ceremony on February 23 to get their glitzy SAG Awards fix, the nominees will quietly debut online without the dramatic envelope openings or awkward pauses for applause.
Stay safe out there, Los Angeles. And remember, the only thing hotter than these wildfires are the awards season predictions.
