On the 15th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s moonwalk to the afterlife, his inner circle lit up social media like it was Thriller night all over again.
Leading the charge was his son, Prince, who shared a nostalgic photo from the 1993 Super Bowl performance. The snap featured Michael dazzling the crowd with his signature smile that said, “I know I’m awesome.” Prince’s caption read, “Miss you pops. The world felt better with you in it.” Translation: “Dad, life without your sparkle is like a moonwalk with no moon.”
Not to be outdone, MJ’s brother Jackie also joined the tribute train, posting a vintage pic from Michael’s early days when his hair was as big as his dreams. “Hard to believe it’s been 15 years without you,” Jackie wrote, adding a broken heart emoji and enough tearful faces to flood a small village. “We miss you every day.” Clearly, Jackie is still in denial that his brother’s only gone from sight, not from the playlist.
Back in 2009, a cocktail of unfortunate drugs put an end to Michael’s earthly dance-off at the age of 50. Reflecting on his father’s legacy, Prince told People, “Parents usually teach you the ins and outs of life, but mine was busy teaching the world how to moonwalk. So yeah, it’s a bit confusing without him.” He added, “It’s a huge legacy to keep alive. I wish I had a manual titled ‘How to Be Legendary Like Dad.’ So, I think about him daily.”
Meanwhile, Hollywood is cooking up a cinematic tribute to the King of Pop. Under the direction of Antoine Fuqua, a musical biopic starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson is in the works. This means we’re all getting a front-row seat to relive the magic, sequins, and moonwalks on the big screen. Buckle up, because the Jackson legacy is about to hit a high note again!
