Paul Feig is once again donning his virtual armor and defending the honor of Blake Lively—because apparently, directing movies now comes with a side job as a celebrity lawyer.
The news broke that Another Simple Favor—aka, the sequel we didn’t know we needed but will absolutely watch—will have its world premiere at SXSW in March 2025. But instead of celebrating, the internet did what it does best: throw shade.
Some keyboard warriors took to Paul’s Instagram comments to stir the It Ends With Us pot, referencing the drama where Blake allegedly made her own cut of the film, separate from director Justin Baldoni’s. One commenter snarked, “Is it Paul Feig’s cut or Blake’s cut?”—implying that Blake might have smuggled an editing machine into her handbag again. Another user took things further, writing, “I hope no one ends up in the basement,” a not-so-subtle jab at how Justin and his family reportedly had to watch his film premiere from the underground like it was a secret speakeasy.
But Paul, ever the ride-or-die, wasn’t having it.
“It’s my cut. There is no other cut,” he declared, probably while sipping a fancy cocktail in a stylish suit. “Blake has been nothing but supportive and a dream to work with. She is the best and an amazing collaborator, and I’m her biggest fan. Just wanted to clear that up.”
This isn’t even the first time Paul has stepped up as Blake’s unofficial spokesperson. When the It Ends With Us lawsuit first made headlines, he had already put out a message supporting her. At this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up to the SXSW premiere in a custom “Justice for Blake” hoodie.
Stay tuned—because with Hollywood drama, there’s always another cut.
