Mexico just got a little quieter (and a lot less savage) because Paquita La Del Barrio, the undisputed queen of calling out cheating men, has officially left the chat. The legendary singer, who made an entire career out of roasting unfaithful partners in song, has passed away at 77.
The sad news was dropped on Instagram this Monday (February 17), because of course, that’s how we find out everything these days. The cause of death? Still a mystery, much like why some men thought they could get away with cheating after she specifically warned them in “Tres Veces Te Engañé” (“Three Times I Cheated on You”).
A Legend Like No Other
“With profound pain and sadness, we confirm the passing of our dear ‘Paquita La Del Barrio,’ in her Veracruz home. A unique and irreplaceable talent who left a permanent fingerprint on the heart of all of us who knew her and enjoyed her music,” read the official statement. Translation: The world has lost a true icon, and cheaters everywhere just breathed a sigh of relief.
Paquita spent over five decades calling out unfaithful men, selling over 30 million records, and collecting three Grammy nominations. In 2021, the Billboard Latin Music Awards finally acknowledged what we all already knew: this woman was a living legend, handing her a Lifetime Achievement Award for single-handedly making “rata de dos patas” (two-legged rat) the ultimate insult.
A Musical Legacy That Will Never Be Silenced
While Paquita may have left us, her songs will forever be the soundtrack of scorned women (and some very regretful men). Rest in peace to a queen who never held back, never apologized, and always made sure the rats got what they deserved.
Our thoughts go out to her fans, friends, and every ex-boyfriend she ever wrote a song about.
