Nina Dobrev is officially at war with bicycles, tricycles, unicycles—basically anything that rolls on two (or more) wheels—after her not-so-fun dirt bike disaster last year.
The 36-year-old actress had a very unfortunate rendezvous with the ground in May 2024, landing herself straight in the hospital. Her knee? Not thrilled. Her ACL? Betrayed. Her meniscus? Filing for a restraining order. After some serious reconstructive work in June, Nina is now 10 months deep into recovery and has developed an intense emotional beef with bikes.
In a new interview, she admitted that even looking at a bicycle gives her trust issues.
“I’m definitely getting there,” Nina told People, “but it takes time. I’m 10 months in, and usually, people take a full year to recover from this. So, by the time I’m fully healed, I’ll be able to snowboard again—just in time for the heatwave of summer. Perfect timing.”
Despite being a fearless vampire on TV, real-life Nina now has some serious second thoughts about anything that involves wheels and balance.
“There’s definitely a mental block. Like, my brain is screaming ‘DON’T DO IT’ every time I even think about getting back on a bike,” she said. “And honestly? I’m listening. Dirt bikes betrayed me. Regular bicycles? Guilty by association. Not touching them.”
Meanwhile, on the bright side, her personal life is rolling much more smoothly than her dirt bike ever did—because in October, her Olympian boyfriend Shaun White popped the question! (Thankfully, no biking was involved in the proposal.)
Just last weekend, the couple braved the icy cold for the Moncler fashion show in the French Alps—which means Nina is slowly but surely embracing snow again. As for bikes? Let’s just say they’re permanently ghosted.
