Neil Young, rock legend and part-time sage of anti-commercial wisdom, has officially ghosted Glastonbury 2025. Along with his band, The Chrome Hearts, he announced his decision to ditch the festival in a heartfelt “Dear John” statement on his official website.
Apparently, the breakup wasn’t mutual. Neil claims the once-beloved festival has morphed into a “corporate turn-off” thanks to its shiny new relationship with the BBC.
“The Chrome Hearts and I were hyped to rock Glastonbury—seriously, top-tier vibes there,” Young wrote. “But then the BBC rolled in like that annoying boss at a party, asking us to do things their way. And we were like, ‘Nah, fam.’ Turns out Glastonbury’s got a new corporate overlord, and it’s just not the scrappy little fest I fell for.”
He didn’t get into the nitty-gritty of what the BBC supposedly asked him to do. Maybe they wanted him to perform in a sparkly jumpsuit or include a mandatory TikTok dance break. Whatever it was, Neil wasn’t having it.
He summed up his feelings in one glorious mic drop: “It’s a corporate turn-off, man. Not the festival of my dreams anymore. Peace out.”
Young took a quick detour down memory lane, thanking fans who cheered him on during his 2009 Glastonbury set. Then he slyly hinted at his next moves, adding, “Catch me at one of the other venues on the tour—ones without boardroom vibes, thanks.”
Meanwhile, Glastonbury organizers are probably sweating in their wellies. The festival hasn’t released its full lineup yet, but they’ve announced Rod Stewart as a headliner. Because nothing says “youthful rebellion” like Rod belting out Maggie May to a sea of flower crowns.
For those uninitiated, Glastonbury is basically the UK’s Coachella—minus the desert but with triple the mud. The 2025 edition runs June 25-29 at Worthy Farm in southwest England. Whether it will feature more rock legends or just a parade of corporate-approved acts remains to be seen. Stay tuned for the drama.
