Miley Cyrus dazzled in a suit on Sunday (August 11) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., where she was celebrated as a Disney Legend. That’s right—Miley, the woman who made “Party in the USA” practically an anthem, is now a LEGEND. Talk about a career upgrade!
At the grand event, Miley—who’s just 31, making her the youngest Disney Legend ever—was one of 14 lucky honorees. They threw confetti, and probably a few mouse ears, in her honor for her epic contributions to the Walt Disney Company.
Her mom, Tish, and sister, Brandi, were there too, because what’s a milestone without family? The evening featured a live rendition of the Hannah Montana theme song “Best of Both Worlds” by country star Lainey Wilson. It was like a blast from the past with a little bit of twang.
A video tribute played with shout-outs from John Travolta, Chappell Roan, and Bret Michaels. John Travolta called in from the set of his latest “Is This a Dance Battle?” film, while Bret Michaels probably tried to out-rock the video screen.
Miley, in her moment of glory, got a bit misty-eyed while reminiscing about her Hannah Montana days. “I’m gonna spill the tea on being a Disney Legend,” she said, wiping her eyes. “Legends get scared too. I’m scared right now, but hey, we do it anyway. It’s legendary to be afraid and still go for it. There’s no such thing as failure when you’re trying. So go on, try that karaoke solo you’ve been dreaming about!”
She quipped, “In 2005, Disney needed a major makeover, so they hired Bob Iger—and me. That’s a lot of magic for one company!” And she proudly declared, “I’m still pumped to have been Hannah Montana. This award’s for Hannah and all her amazing fans. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life!’”
Catch Miley’s epic acceptance speech and the whole Disney Legends Awards Ceremony on Disney+ starting Monday (August 12) at 5pm ET/2pm PT. Don’t miss out—unless you’re afraid of magic and inspiration!
