Machine Gun Kelly is saddling up and strumming a whole new tune with his upcoming single “Lonely Road,” featuring none other than the country crooner Jelly Roll. Get ready for a genre-bending hoedown on July 26, where rap meets rock meets…yeehaw?
MGK, the musical chameleon, seems to be channeling his inner John Denver with this track, inspired by the iconic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Released in 1971, Denver’s classic was the ultimate sing-along before “Baby Shark” took over car rides. Now, MGK and Jelly Roll are tipping their cowboy hats to Denver by sprinkling some of his legendary melody and lyrics into their own musical concoction.
And because MGK loves a good cliffhanger, he dropped a sneak peek of the music video on social media, teasing fans with the caption, “Countdown to KellyRoll activated. Thanks to John Denver for paving the way.” The video is a rollercoaster of emotions, featuring MGK getting cozy with the hood of a police car (not his best angle) and later attending a funeral with Jelly Roll. Drama, suspense, and possibly a few tear-jerking moments are on the menu. And eagle-eyed fans might just spot Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie XO, making a cameo, as she cheerfully shouted on MGK’s post, “Let’s goooo.” Clearly, she’s ready to hit the country road!
This musical mash-up marks MGK’s return two years after his album “Mainstream Sellout” dominated the Billboard 200, proving once again that this guy can’t be boxed in. Just this past March, he teamed up with Trippie Redd for the “Genre: Sadboy” EP, adding more flavors to his eclectic musical buffet.
So, grab your boots and popcorn, because MGK and Jelly Roll are about to take us on a wild ride down the “Lonely Road.” Y’all better be ready!
