In what might be the most unexpected comeback since the McRib, Lori Loughlin, the 60-year-old Full House alum and former jailbird, is trading in her orange jumpsuit for a badge. That’s right! Lori is set to star in On Call, the first-ever scripted streaming series from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment. Because if there’s one thing Lori loves more than school admissions scams, it’s starring in a prime drama. (Get it? Because it’s on Prime Video. Thank you, I’ll be here all week.)
The show’s all eight episodes will drop on January 9, 2025, just in time for you to recover from your holiday hangover.
The Squad You Didn’t Know You Needed
Joining Lori in this half-hour police drama is a stellar cast, including Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars fame—where lying is a legitimate skill), Brandon Larracuente, Eriq La Salle, and Rich Ting.
In a first look, Lori steps into the role of Lieutenant Bishop, proving that playing by the rules might not be her thing, but enforcing them? Well, now that’s comedy gold. Meanwhile, Troian plays “hard-charging but protective” Officer Traci Harmon. Harmon is basically the cop version of that friend who forces everyone to hydrate at brunch—annoying but endearing.
Brandon, on the other hand, plays Alex Diaz, a wide-eyed rookie whose optimism is slowly getting beaten out of him by reality. Poor guy probably thought policing was all about donuts and “good job” stickers. Eriq steps in as Sergeant Lasman, and Rich rounds out the squad as Sergeant Koyama. We can only hope their squad meetings involve awkward team-building exercises and passive-aggressive memos about parking.
From Orange to Officer Blue
This new gig marks Lori’s first major role outside of her feel-good, cookie-cutter GAC movies. For those who might not remember (or have tried to block it out), Lori spent almost two months in prison back in 2020 after getting caught up in the infamous college admissions scandal. If only she’d taken this role before all that—she could have just arrested herself.
Since serving her time, Lori’s been slowly tiptoeing back into the world of television. She appeared in When Hope Calls and starred in some holiday flicks so sugary they made Elf look edgy. More recently, she popped up in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where she basically played herself, proving that if life gives you lemons, you juice them for content.
So, What’s Next?
With On Call, Lori’s hoping to leave her past behind and bring in 2025 with some dramatic police action—and maybe some redemption along the way. Will Lieutenant Bishop crack the case? Will Troian’s Officer Harmon finally chill out? Will Alex Diaz survive his rookie year without becoming a meme? Tune in January 9th to find out.
One thing’s for sure: If Lori Loughlin can bounce back from a prison stint to play a cop, there’s hope for all of us. Well, maybe not all of us—just the ones with great agents. 😎
