Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix are promoting Joker: Folie à Deux like it’s the Oscars for existential crises! The duo strutted into the 2024 Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, looking like they just popped out of a comic book where clowns run the world. Joining them was the mastermind of beautifully twisted cinema, Todd Phillips, who somehow convinced both actors to not only sing, but sing live. Yes, LIVE—as in no autotune safety net, just pure vocal chaos!
At a press conference, things got spicy when Joaquin recalled a fateful moment. “Stefani—yes, I call her Stefani because we’re on a first-name basis—said we’d be singing live. I laughed, said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Then, surprise! We sang. Not once. But a bajillion times. Each take sounded like a new genre of experimental opera that probably shouldn’t exist but now does.”
Lady Gaga, in her usual dramatic glory, chimed in. “The music? Oh, it’s basically therapy in the form of melody. Talking? Pfft, boring. Let’s express our inner turmoil with jazz hands and high notes.”
Joker: Folie à Deux—coming to a theater near you on October 4th. Expect tears, laughter, and possibly a group singalong you didn’t sign up for.
Oh, and FYI: Gaga wore Christian Louboutin shoes, as one does when taking over the world through the power of live musical numbers.
