Kyle Richards is getting real about the conversation she dreaded having with her daughters. Yup, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills icon had to sit her girls down and address the elephant in the room: her evolving sexuality and all those rumors about her and musician Morgan Wade. So buckle up; this is Housewives history in the making.
Okay, flashback. Over the last few years, people have been speculating more than a detective on a caffeine high that Kyle, 55, and Morgan, 29, might be romantically involved. Things got extra spicy after Kyle and her hubby of nearly 27 years, Mauricio Umansky, separated. But Kyle has been sticking to her script, reminding everyone that she and Morgan are “just friends.” (Just friends with matching tattoos and a lot of time together. You know, as friends do.)
So, about that heart-to-heart with her daughters—Farrah, 36, Alexia, 28, Sophia, 24, and Portia, 16. Kyle recently told Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea that this convo was “the most difficult” she’s ever had, confessing, “I was terrified.” And yeah, Kyle Richards was basically shaking in her Gucci boots. Why? Because suddenly, she was hit with the thought, “Am I… possibly… maybe… considering other romantic possibilities?”
Kyle shared, “This is not the way I was raised. My mind never worked like this!” In other words, it was like someone handed her a plot twist from a Real Housewives producer: Surprise! You’re questioning your sexuality!
But she was determined to keep it real with her daughters. “I wanted to be as honest as possible because they’re my best friends,” she said. She wanted her girls to know that they should never feel weird about being themselves. So, basically, it was like one giant episode of “Mom’s Got Some News, So Let’s All Be Chill About It.”
And get this—her daughters were total rock stars about it. Kyle’s proud mom moment went into overdrive as she realized these young women could school her on acceptance. “Having that conversation and seeing their response made me think, ‘Wow, maybe I did do a good job,’” she shared. Not only did they react with total support, but afterward, they cracked jokes like it was open-mic night at the Richards-Umansky house. Yes, even Portia, the youngest, threw some playful shade.
Oh, and then Kyle threw in an update on her and Morgan. Apparently, they’ve decided to cool off their friendship—no matching BFF tattoos anytime soon. Kyle hinted that Morgan, understandably, got overwhelmed by the Bravo circus and relentless paparazzi. “I’m an open book,” Kyle said, “but I can’t speak for someone who hasn’t signed up for this reality show whirlwind and just doesn’t want the chaos.”
Kyle’s got a new dynamic with her daughters, and maybe a bit more inner peace. Tune in for Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on November 19 at 8 p.m. ET, because if this is the offseason drama, we’re all in for one wild ride.
