Kelly Clarkson, the queen of powerhouse vocals and relatable life struggles, just dropped some rare (and spicy) comments about co-parenting with her ex, Brandon Blackstock. And honestly? She said what every working mom has been thinking but is too tired to yell into the void.
The 42-year-old singer, talk show host, and woman-who-deserves-a-break appeared on the Not Gonna Lie podcast (hosted by Kylie Kelce) and casually called out the universal nonsense that is the “working mom vs. working dad” debate.
Kelly and Brandon, in case you forgot, share two adorable kids: Remy, 8, and River Rose, 10. And as every divorced parent knows, navigating shared custody is basically like trying to solve a Rubik’s cube while blindfolded… on a rollercoaster… in a tornado.
Kelly’s Take on the Double Standard:
“It’s funny though how different it is because even from a young age, like we didn’t teach [kids that]. Just innately, you’re like, ‘He’s allowed to be somewhere, but you’re not.’ Like, that is real interesting,” Kelly said, hitting society with a well-deserved side-eye.
And then, she really laid it out:
“There’s a lot that I keep in because… co-parenting is fun.” (Note: That’s fun with a capital F for frustrating). “It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?”
Listen, we’re not saying Kelly deserves a medal for patience, but someone at least get her a margarita.
The Drama Recap:
Kelly and Brandon, who were married for seven years, split in 2020 and finally (FINALLY) finalized their divorce in 2022 after a custody battle that felt longer than a Lord of the Rings marathon. And in case you missed the sequel, she has since sued him.
At this point, Kelly’s life is basically a reality show we didn’t ask for but can’t stop watching.
Moral of the story? Kelly Clarkson remains an icon, working moms deserve way more credit, and no, she is not just chilling in the park all day.
