Katy Perry decided to spend the Fourth of July in Italy because, well, who wouldn’t want to trade hot dogs and fireworks for pasta and opera? The 39-year-old pop superstar took a break from barbecues and Uncle Sam to dazzle at the Dolce&Gabbana Alta Moda Party on Thursday (July 4) at Forte Village in Sardinia, Italy.
Katy strutted onto the stage looking like a futuristic gladiator who got lost in a disco ball factory. She rocked a sculptural silver corset that looked like it was forged in the depths of a chrome volcano, complete with lace-up details and sneak peeks of skin. This shiny armor was paired with a mini skirt made of what appeared to be chains stolen from a very fashionable ghost. And because that wasn’t enough sparkle, she topped it all off with a beaded shrug cape that could blind you if you stared too long and thigh-high boots that screamed, “These boots are made for strutting!”
Her band and dancers, not wanting to be outdone, also donned custom outfits that could double as high-fashion battle gear. Together, they looked like a squad ready to take on both a runway and a medieval battlefield.
As for the music, Katy didn’t hold back. She belted out hits like “Dark Horse,” where she presumably conjured storm clouds and mystical forces; “Swish Swish,” a song that can only be described as the ultimate diss track for basketball players; and “Chained to the Rhythm,” which had everyone bouncing along like it was a Zumba class. She even managed to squeeze in “Cry About It Later,” a song that’s perfect for when you’re having an epic night out and decide to ignore all your problems until tomorrow.
And of course, the show wouldn’t be complete without “I Kissed a Girl,” which probably had a few Italians questioning their life choices; “Roar,” where she unleashed her inner lioness; “Daisies,” a tune that made everyone feel like they were frolicking in a meadow; “Walking on Air,” which might have caused a few people to attempt levitation; “Teenage Dream,” reminding everyone of their awkward yet nostalgic youth; “California Girls,” where she repped the West Coast hard; and “Firework,” because what’s a Katy Perry concert without ending on a literal bang?
Katy Perry’s Fourth of July in Italy was less about burgers and beer and more about bling and bops. And really, isn’t that what we all secretly want?
