Our goth queen, Jenna Ortega, is serving us a fresh scoop on the highly anticipated second season of Wednesday! The 21-year-old star has pressed the “pause” button on her creepy-cool antics to, well, haunt us with another project. What’s that project, you ask? Oh, just a small film called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice… because when you’re Jenna, one ‘Beetlejuice’ is never enough.
During a casual chat (and by casual, I mean she’s probably draped in black lace while sipping on something far too mysterious), Jenna opened up about where things stand with Wednesday season 2. Spoiler alert: Things are happening, people. Big, spooky things.
“We’re knee-deep in it. Like, imagine wading through a swamp of piranhas, but in a good way,” Jenna quipped to ET. “We’ve wrapped four episodes already, which is either a really good sign or the beginning of a horror movie plot twist. But, honestly, everything’s going smoothly… for now.”
And guess what? It’s not just the same gloomy antics with a little extra eyeliner. Oh no, friends, they’re going big. Bigger sets, bigger arcs, and, naturally, bigger weird. “We’re sticking to the roots, but it’s become this grand tree of chaos,” Jenna explained. “The characters? Full glow-up. Set pieces? Mind-blowing. Storylines? Buckle up, because this ride is wild from the get-go. It’s basically like if a rollercoaster and a haunted house had a really intense baby.”
When asked if diving into the spooky pool of Wednesday Addams for round two is as terrifying as the first time, Jenna kept it real.
“The first time was a mix of excitement and sheer panic. You know, the whole ‘working with Tim Burton’ thing and the fact that literally everyone on the planet has opinions on Wednesday Addams… no pressure, right?” she said with a chuckle (probably a slightly haunted one). “There’s this weird vibe of, ‘Hey, let’s reboot an iconic character that everyone’s obsessed with… what could go wrong?’ But now, we’ve found our groove. We know what we’re doing. Kinda.”
But don’t think the pressure’s off. Oh no, now it’s all about pushing the boundaries further, making everything bigger, better, and spookier than ever before. “The pressure is still there, but now it’s more like a creepy, welcome friend who’s always hanging out in the shadows,” Jenna joked. “But seriously, we’ve hit our stride, and it’s a joy. Like, the ‘Oh no, I might’ve accidentally summoned a demon, but this is fun’ kind of joy.”
Wednesday season 2 started filming back in May, over in Ireland, where everything’s greener, rainier, and probably haunted by 16th-century ghosts. Stay tuned, because if you thought season 1 was creepy, season 2 is about to make you check under your bed… twice.
