We’ve got a bat-sized update on Robert Pattinson’s future in the DC Universe—or rather, his lack of one.
So, if you’ve been living under a rock (or in the Batcave), Robert Pattinson is currently Gotham’s brooding emo prince in The Batman, with a sequel set to drop in 2027. But plot twist! That version of Batman exists in its own little moody, rainy universe, far away from whatever chaos James Gunn and Peter Safran are cooking up over at DC Studios.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. DC is making another Batman movie—because, obviously, one isn’t enough. This one is called Batman: The Brave and the Bold (which sounds like Batman took a self-help class). This new Batman will actually be part of the main DCU, unlike Robert’s version, which is basically the cool indie film Batman who listens to The Cure.
So, will Pattinson play double-duty as two different Batmen? James Gunn has the answer: “Uhh, no.” Okay, he didn’t say it exactly like that, but he did say it’s “very unlikely.” Which, in Hollywood speak, means please stop asking.
However, James did drop a cryptic hint that this mystery Batman could pop up in another project before Brave and the Bold comes out. Who will wear the cape and cowl? Nobody knows. In fact, Gunn literally admitted, “The actor doesn’t exist yet.” So unless they’re planning to 3D print a Batman or grow one in a lab, we’ll just have to wait.
TL;DR: Robert Pattinson is still Batman, but not the Batman in that Batman movie, because DC needs multiple Batmen. Stay tuned for more Bat-chaos.
