Halle Berry is on a mission to take over Hollywood, one blockbuster at a time—somebody stop her (but don’t actually, because we love this for her). At a spry 58, she’s just bagged another lead role, because, you know, why not? This time, she’s teaming up with none other than Mr. Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, for a thriller that sounds like it’s going to make us all nervous enough to check if our jewels are still where we left them.
The film? Crime 101. No, it’s not a course on how to become a master criminal (although that would be a fun elective). It’s based on a Don Winslow short story, which basically translates to: “Expect high-level drama, probably some bad decisions, and oh yeah—Colombian cartels.” Casual.
The plot is still more secretive than the Colonel’s chicken recipe, but here’s what we do know: there are jewel thefts happening along the Pacific Coast (cue dramatic music), and the police think it’s cartel business. Enter Detective Lou Lubesnick, who’s apparently not buying what the cops are selling. He’s got his eyes on a lone thief who’s trying to pull off the one last job—because, of course, they always have one last job.
The film’s directed by Bart Layton, the guy who brought us American Animals—so expect some wild plot twists, snazzy cinematography, and more than a few “Wait, what just happened?” moments. Bart’s working with Peter Straughan, who likely knows how to keep the audience guessing.
But wait, it gets better. This movie is basically a mini Avengers reunion! Besides Hemsworth flexing his hammer-less acting skills, we’ve got Mark “The Hulk” Ruffalo rolling in, and even Barry Keoghan is joining the squad. Honestly, we’re just hoping they all turn green at some point, but maybe that’s asking too much.
Filming kicks off in November, which means we’ve got plenty of time to pretend we know everything about high-level jewel heists before the movie drops in 2025.
Oh, and by the way, Halle and Chris are already all over the big screen as of September 20th. Halle’s over here starring in Never Let Go, and Chris is lending his god-like voice to Transformers One. So, if you haven’t gotten your Berry-Hemsworth fix yet, now’s your chance!
