Dua Lipa headlined the Glastonbury Festival on Friday night, June 28, delivering a set so spectacular it could’ve lit up a blackout. However, some eagle-eyed fans—or should we say, eagle-eared?—were convinced the 28-year-old pop star was lip-syncing. Shock! Horror! Internet rage!
Taking the stage at Worthy Farm, Dua didn’t just sing, she put on a whole darn variety show. She belted out hits like “Training Season,” “One Kiss,” and “Levitating,” while also performing acrobatic dance routines that would make Cirque du Soleil blush. She was decked out in a leather-studded bodysuit that screamed, “I’m here to rock, but also possibly fight crime.” And as if that wasn’t enough, she brought out Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker for a mind-blowing duet of their 2015 hit “The Less I Know the Better.” Spoiler: the crowd did not want to know less.
But hold your applause! Some fans, obviously graduates from the Lip-Sync Police Academy, noticed Dua’s lips playing a game of catch-up with the songs. They took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their displeasure.
“Seriously, #DuaLipa can’t sing live? Might as well have brought a jukebox,” tweeted one disgruntled user. “Worst lip-syncing since Milli Vanilli,” griped another.
Another person chimed in with, “Is anyone else seeing this? Dua Lipa is miming at Glastonbury like it’s a bad high school musical.” And in the harshest critique of all, one person simply asked, “Dua Lipa miming at Glastonbury. What’s the point?” Ouch. That’s gonna leave a mark.
Despite the sync-snafu scandal, other fans showered Dua with praise. “Dua Lipa is a goddess. Why wasn’t I there?” one fan wailed into the digital void. Another wrote, “Dua Lipa’s actually smashing it. I only know ‘One Kiss,’ but her voice is better than I imagined. Can’t wait to see her at the ‘legends’ slot in 25 years.” Ah, the fickle heart of the fanbase.
The collaboration between Dua and Kevin Parker was hailed as pure magic. During the show, Dua confessed she had been dreaming of this duet for years. “I wrote it down, I wished for it, I dreamt it,” she told the crowd. Someone call Disney, there’s a new princess in town, and her name is Dua.
Kevin Parker played a pivotal role in shaping Dua’s latest album “Radical Optimism,” co-producing and co-writing on seven tracks, including “Houdini.” This track blends 1980s sleaze and post-disco melodies, and is as catchy as a cold in a kindergarten. Along with “Training Season” and “Illusion,” it joined the UK Top 10 singles chart, proving that when Dua and Kevin team up, they create gold—whether live or not-so-live.
Or to put it another way… can you believe anyone headlining Glastonbury would lip sync the whole show??? Shocking!!!
