When you combine Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey with a red carpet, some flashing lights, and a sprinkle of “I’m-so-nervous-I-forgot-how-to-breathe” energy, magic happens.
The dynamic duo (or, as we like to call them, “Bond and Beyond”) strutted their stuff at the 2024 New York Film Festival premiere of their new movie Queer at Lincoln Center. And, oh boy, did they strike a pose! Craig, looking dapper as ever, and Starkey, probably wondering why he agreed to all those close-ups, were joined by director Luca Guadagninoโwho might have had that โI canโt believe I wrangled these twoโ look in his eyes.
Not to be left out of the glamour parade, we had Justin Kuritzkes (a man whose name autocorrect loves to mess with), Andrea Scrosati (no relation to a fancy pasta dish), and Jonathan Anderson, whoโs apparently a wizard with fashion as the creative director of Loewe. That man could make a potato sack look runway-ready.
After dazzling everyone with their best “I’m totally comfortable in these clothes, and not at all terrified of tripping” faces, the crew headed to a Q&A. Now, here’s where things got juicy. Drew Starkey, fresh-faced at 30, decided to let us all know that every single scene in the movie had him sweating bullets. “All of them,” he said, probably wiping imaginary perspiration from his brow. Apparently, even James Bond himself (aka Daniel Craig, age 56 and still more stylish than all of us) wasnโt immune to the nerves. Drew, sensing an opportunity to bond with Bond, chimed in that Daniel felt it too. You see, they didnโt just want to make a movieโthey wanted to make art. (Cue dramatic music and maybe a tear.)
Drew then went full-on fanboy, gushing about how “incredible” it was to work with Daniel. He basically described Craig like some kind of acting demigod, sprinkling wisdom around like it was confetti at a parade. “The most giving actor Iโve ever worked with,” Drew declared. We’re not sure if Daniel gave him acting advice or just his Netflix password, but either way, Drew was living the dream.
Meanwhile, Daniel, ever the suave gentleman, had his own moment of bromantic praise for Drew, calling him “the best” and confessing, “I love him to death.” And somewhere, in a parallel universe, Drew probably fainted from the sheer weight of those words.
The premiere was a lovefest wrapped in Hollywood glamour. But more importantly, it left us wondering: How does one get Daniel Craig to say theyโre โthe bestโ? Because weโll do whatever it takes.
