Chrissy Teigen has shared some paw-sitively heartbreaking news, and we’re sending all the virtual hugs her way.
Over the weekend (January 25), the 39-year-old cookbook wizard—known for dishing out both delicious recipes and iconic Twitter clapbacks—revealed that her family’s OG fur queen, Penny the French bulldog, has passed away.
In a heartfelt (and tear-inducing) post, Chrissy wrote:
“Our beautiful little tripod queen, Penny, passed on peacefully in her sleep today.” (Pause for sobbing and/or ugly crying.)
Apparently, Penny wasn’t just a dog; she was THE dog. Born the very day Chrissy and her Grammy-magnet husband John Legend tied the knot 11 years ago, Penny was their ride-or-die through every milestone. Babies? Check. Losses? Check. Triumphs? Double check. That dog lived more drama than a Netflix limited series.
Chrissy continued, saying, “She loved nothing more than being loved, having her nub rubbed (yes, she was a proud tripod, don’t judge her chic limb-less style), and turning every ball she saw into confetti—even in her final weeks. Balls feared her, and rightfully so.”
And then came the gut-punch:
“Never forget that while every pup is just a few chapters in your long life, for them, you are their entire book, their entire lives.” Chrissy, why would you write something so beautiful and emotionally devastating at the same time? Do you want us all to cry on our lunch breaks?
The emotional post concluded with, “Oh Penny, we were so beyond lucky to have you. Say hi to Puddy and Pippa for us. You’re all together again, living your best afterlife.” (Cue the Pixar movie plot where all these dogs are running around, playing fetch with halos.)
Chrissy also treated her followers to a series of sweet photos of Penny alongside the Teigen-Legend kiddos. Honestly, seeing those snaps? Game over. The cuteness level is lethal.
In case you forgot, the Teigen-Legend household is basically a petting zoo at this point. They’ve got dogs, birds, a hamster, and even a bearded dragon. Penny may have passed the torch, but this family’s animal kingdom isn’t slowing down.
Our thoughts (and Kleenex) are with Chrissy, John, and the rest of the Legend fam. Rest in peace, Penny. May your afterlife be full of love, naps, and all the indestructible tennis balls your tripod heart desires.
