Chris Pratt is out here doing what he does best—being a charming action hero while making sure his family is sufficiently stressed out watching his movies.
The 45-year-old (we say this only because Hollywood refuses to let men age) actor strutted onto the stage at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, where he hyped up his latest sci-fi thriller, Mercy. The event took place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, because apparently, nothing says “serious futuristic crime drama” like a venue best known for magic shows and Elton John residencies.
Chris vs. The Robot Courtroom Drama We Didn’t Know We Needed
So, what’s Mercy about? Glad you asked. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris plays a detective who—plot twist!—is accused of murdering his wife. But instead of your regular ol’ court case, he’s tossed into a high-tech AI-run courtroom where he must prove his innocence before the robot overlords decide he’s guilty and delete him from existence.
Oh, and here’s the kicker: he helped create the AI system that’s now trying to ruin his life. Big “scientist creates killer robot, then acts shocked when the robot starts killing” energy. Naturally, this means Chris gets to run, punch, dodge lasers (probably), and stare very intensely at holographic evidence while a countdown timer beeps ominously in the background.
Katherine & Jack’s Reaction: Silent Panic
During CinemaCon, Chris revealed that he subjected his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger and his 12-year-old son Jack to a test screening of Mercy—and the results were alarming.
“It reminds me of a throwback to Speed or something like that, where every second you’re kind of on the edge of your seat,” Chris told Access. “I showed the film to my son and to my wife, and both of them had their knee bouncing up and down and didn’t talk the whole time.”
That’s right. Not a single word. Not even a “Wait, is that Rebecca Ferguson?” or a “Chris, why are you always running?” Just pure, silent, knee-jiggling anxiety. Signs of a good thriller… or people slowly realizing they left the oven on.
The Star-Studded Cast & When to See This Masterpiece
Alongside Chris, Mercy boasts an A-list cast, including Rebecca Ferguson, Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Chris Sullivan, Kylie Rogers, Jeff Pierre, Rafi Gavron, Jamie McBride, and Kenneth Choi—basically, a collection of extremely talented actors who will probably spend a lot of time looking very concerned while futuristic graphics flash behind them.
The movie is set to hit theaters on January 23, 2026, so you have plenty of time to prepare—maybe practice your own knee-bouncing technique so you can fully immerse yourself in the Mercy experience.
Until then, Chris will likely continue doing what he does best: starring in movies where he either fights robots, dinosaurs, or space tyrants while cracking jokes—and making his family very, very nervous in the process.
