The legendary Shannen Doherty, the queen bee of teen dramas and supernatural shenanigans, has sadly exited stage left. Known for her iconic roles as Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Prue Halliwell in Charmed, Shannen left this mortal coil at the age of 53 after an epic battle with breast cancer. Her publicist, Leslie Sloane, broke the news Sunday (July 14), causing a collective “Noooooo!” from fans around the globe.
“It is with a heart heavier than a triple-decker cheeseburger that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” Leslie solemnly declared to People.
“On Saturday, July 13, she finally decided that cancer was just too much of a drama queen to deal with any longer and took her final curtain call,” the statement continued.
Shannen, a fierce daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and all-around badass, was surrounded by her loved ones and her trusty sidekick, Bowie the dog, as she made her grand exit. The family kindly requests privacy at this time, so they can ugly cry in peace and maybe binge-watch 90210 for the thousandth time.
Besides ruling the halls of West Beverly High and battling demons in Charmed, Shannen also graced our screens in TV shows and movies like Little House on the Prairie (back when prairie fashion was a thing), Girls Just Want to Have Fun (because duh, who doesn’t?), Our House (where family drama reigned supreme), Heathers (where she mastered the art of being cool and ruthless), and Fortress (which sounds intense and probably was).
Our thoughts, prayers, and an endless supply of tissues are with Shannen Doherty’s loved ones during this insanely difficult time. Shannen, you were a warrior, a legend, and you’ll be missed more than words can express. Keep the drama alive up there!
