A fresh teaser for the upcoming Superman movie swooped in on Sunday (January 26) like a Kryptonian meteor, and it’s giving us all the feels.
The “Icon” TV spot, lovingly served up by DC Studios, also found its way onto James Gunn’s social media (because of course it did). The writer/director posted the clip with a simple, no-frills caption: “It begins July 11th. #Superman.” No emojis, no GIFs—just raw, unfiltered hype. Classic Gunn move.
Now, before you grab your popcorn, let’s address the obvious: most of this 30-second spot is recycled footage from the previously released teaser. Yes, Hollywood is apparently into the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra now. But! There are a couple of shiny new moments sprinkled in, and oh boy, they’re worth it.
First, we see Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) casually stepping off a plane, presumably after a very “business villain” flight where he ate peanuts and plotted world domination. He’s got that “I’m about to ruin someone’s day” energy, and honestly, we love to see it.
Then, there’s Superman (David Corenswet), majestically flying through a snowy tundra like he’s on an epic mission—or just really, really committed to finding the world’s best hot cocoa. Either way, we’re here for it.
But wait, there’s more! The star-studded cast is nothing short of super, featuring Rachel Brosnahan as the fearless Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (because why have just one green superhero when you can have two?), Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, our favorite photo-snapping sidekick.
So mark your calendars, set your reminders, and maybe even sew your own cape because Superman is flying into theaters on July 11th. Until then, stay super, friends! 🦸♂️
