Hold onto your chimichangas, because the Marvel Cinematic Universe just dropped a bombshell bigger than Deadpool’s ego!
The latest flick, Deadpool & Wolverine, hit theaters on Friday (July 26), reuniting everyone’s favorite wisecracking anti-hero, played by the one and only Ryan Reynolds, with Hugh Jackman’s grumpy, claw-wielding Wolverine. But the real plot twist? The actress playing Lady Deadpool has finally ripped off her mask, and it’s not who you think!
Speculation was wilder than a Deadpool fan’s imagination, with some people even betting their last taco that Taylor Swift was under the mask. Spoiler alert: she wasn’t. Instead, it turns out Lady Deadpool is played by none other than Ryan Reynolds’ better half, Blake Lively! Yep, you read that right. Serena van der Woodsen has traded her designer heels for Deadpool’s boots.
Blake took to Instagram to spill the beans, dropping a nostalgia bomb about her superhero journey that started way back in 2010 on the set of The Green Lantern. She reminisced about those good ol’ days when she was juggling Gossip Girl drama and gearing up for her first superhero gig alongside her “kind Canadian costar” (that’s Ryan Reynolds for the uninitiated) and fellow superhero newbie, Taika Waititi.
“Ryan introduced us to Deadpool and our minds were as blown as Wade Wilson’s face under that mask,” Blake shared. “Taika, being the genius he is, got the ‘meta’ concept right away while the rest of us were like, ‘Meta who? Is that a new sushi place?’”
Fast forward 12 years, and Blake stumbled upon a post by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, who had drawn an unmasked Lady Deadpool for the first time back in 2010. Little did Rob know that Blake was already plotting to don the red and black suit herself.
“And now, here we are, with Deadpool 3 in theaters, and me strutting my stuff as Lady Deadpool,” Blake wrote. “The universe clearly has a sense of humor, and it’s darker than Deadpool’s.”
She also gave a shoutout to director Shawn Levy, calling him a one-of-a-kind talent both on and off-screen. “Thanks for the wild ride, buddy. Everyone, brace yourselves for a cinematic rollercoaster!”
Blake signed off her post with “LP,” which we’re pretty sure stands for Lady Pool, not Lost Puppy, though Deadpool probably wouldn’t mind that either.
Grab your popcorn and get ready for some fourth-wall-breaking fun because Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters now. And remember, behind every great Deadpool, there’s an even greater Lady Deadpool.
