Ladies, gentlemen, and anyone who’s ever drunk-texted their ex at 2 AM—Benson Boone is back, and he’s here to rip our hearts out with his new single, “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else.”
The 22-year-old singer, who famously ditched American Idol like it was a bad Tinder date, has since skyrocketed to fame—earning a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and blessing us with 2024’s anthem “Beautiful Things.” But clearly, while his career is thriving, his love life? A hot mess.
Benson’s latest track is basically an emotional SOS, and it sounds like it was written in the middle of a full-blown “What have I done?!” crisis.
“I’m sorry I’m here for someone else,” he croons, probably while staring longingly out of a rain-covered window. “It’s good to see your face / And I really hope you’re doing well.” TRANSLATION: Hey, so… I totally thought I moved on, but then I saw you and now my entire life is spiraling.
And just when you think, Okay, maybe he’s just being polite, he hits us with the kicker:
“You were always the one I shoulda waited for / I can’t lose you again, not again, not again, not again.”
Sir. SIR. This is not a song—this is a full-on regret spiral in musical form. Somebody take his phone before he starts drafting a “U up?” text.
Moral of the story? Love hurts, Benson Boone is not okay, and we will be playing this song on repeat while aggressively staring at the ceiling.
Now excuse us while we go listen to this song and pretend it’s not about our ex.
