On Monday (June 24), the news broke like a fresh beat: the one and only Will Smith, 55-year-old Oscar-winning actor, and eternal Fresh Prince, will be dropping a new original song at the 2024 BET Awards this Sunday, June 30. Yes, you heard that right—Big Willie is back!
Connie Orlando, the EVP of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, gushed in a statement to Deadline: “From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage.”
Translation: “Will Smith is so awesome, we couldn’t resist dragging him out of whatever cool thing he’s doing to dazzle us once more!”
She added, “We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.”
Basically, if you miss this, you might as well be living under a rock, a very uncool rock.
Will’s upcoming performance follows his surprise appearance during J Balvin’s Coachella set in April, where he reminded everyone that he’s still got the moves and the grooves.
The 2024 BET Awards, hosted by the fabulous Taraji P. Henson, will air live on Sunday, June 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET. Be there or risk eternal FOMO!
