Well, well, well—looks like Prince Charming has officially been ghosted by Disney. The live-action remake of Snow White has kicked the royal smoocher to the curb and swapped him out for a brand-new character named Jonathan. And before you ask—no, he’s not another prince. He’s a thief. Because, apparently, stealing hearts isn’t enough; now he’s swiping palace treasures too.
Jonathan is played by Tony Award winner Andrew Burnap, who is probably just as confused as we are about how he ended up in a Snow White movie without being a prince. But hey, times are changing.
True Love’s Kiss? Ew, That’s So 1937
For those of you clutching your childhood VHS tapes, let’s get one thing straight: Prince Charming isn’t just gone—he was never even invited to the party. Rachel Zegler (a.k.a. the new Snow White) spilled the tea way back in 2022, telling Extra that the OG prince was, well, kind of a creep.
“The original cartoon came out in 1937 and very evidently so,” she said. “There’s a big focus on her love story with the guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird.”
Harsh? Maybe. But she’s got a point. Charming’s whole game plan was to hear a girl sing once and decide Yep, that’s my wife. Then he shows up unannounced at her glass coffin like some medieval rom-com villain. Sir, this is a funeral, not a speed dating event.
Fast forward to 2025, and Rachel has refined her statement, telling Allure:
“Snow White is on her own mission, and she falls in love along the way, which is really awesome. That’s how life happens. You’re never looking for it, and then all of a sudden, it’s there.”
A love story that’s not the whole point of the movie? Groundbreaking.
Meet Jonathan: Thief, Survivor, Possible Softboi?
Enter Jonathan, the prince’s replacement. And what’s his deal? Well, instead of wearing a fancy crown and dramatically kissing sleeping people, he’s out here committing actual crimes. He gets caught stealing from the palace, the Evil Queen punishes him, and then Snow White—being the independent boss she is—saves him. Eventually, he returns the favor. So it’s like a mutual saving situation. Progress!
Andrew Burnap, the man behind this mysterious Jonathan, gushed about his experience in the film, telling Man About Town:
“I get to play a whole new character, which is so fun. Working with Rachel and Gal was an absolute dream. And Marc Webb, our director, has such a great vision for this beloved fairy tale.”
He also confirmed what we already suspected—this isn’t a waiting-to-be-saved kind of Snow White.
“It’s a new story in the sense that it’s no longer a princess waiting to be saved by a prince, but a princess waiting to be saved by herself and finding her voice, her strength, and her courage. And actually, in the end, saving everyone around her.”
So basically, Snow White is now that friend who doesn’t just have her life together—she’s out here fixing everyone else’s too. We respect it.
Final Thoughts: Where’s the Prince Now?
So, what’s Prince Charming up to these days? Probably sitting in some castle somewhere, scrolling through Snow White’s Instagram, liking all her photos from three months ago and wondering where it all went wrong.
Times have changed. And if you’re looking for a prince to save the day, you might just have to save yourself first.
