Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme Has More Celebs Than a Met Gala Bathroom — And The Trailer Is Finally Here!

Buy Me A Coffee

Get ready to wear pastel suits and emotionally repress your feelings — Wes Anderson is back, and he’s bringing a truckload of celebrities with him!

His new film, The Phoenician Scheme — which sounds like either a sophisticated crime thriller or an overpriced Mediterranean skincare brand — is dropping in theaters on May 30, and it’s giving family drama meets vintage postcard realness.

So what’s it about?
Well, Wes being Wes, the plot is described vaguely as “a family and a family business.” That’s it. No spoilers. No clarity. Just vibes and symmetrical camera shots.

But here’s what we do know:

Benicio del Toro plays Zsa-Zsa Korda, who is apparently one of the richest men in Europe and sounds like he owns three castles and a moon crater.dit
Mia Threapleton (aka Kate Winslet’s daughter, keep up) stars as Liesl, his daughter who is ALSO a nun. Yep, daddy’s rich, she’s holy — this is either going to be heartwarming or deeply confusing.
Michael Cera is Bjorn, the family’s tutor, who’s probably awkward and brilliant and definitely owns one (1) very dusty globe.

And the supporting cast? OH honey, it’s a cosmic celebrity bingo card:

Riz Ahmed (probably cool and mysterious)
Tom Hanks (America’s dad, now maybe Europe’s uncle?)
Bryan Cranston (he will deliver a monologue that destroys you emotionally)
Mathieu Amalric (French. That’s it. That’s the vibe.)
Richard Ayoade (expect dry humor and a magnificent suit)
Jeffrey Wright (a voice so deep, it rattles your bones)
Scarlett Johansson (probably sighs dramatically in a scenic field)
Benedict Cumberbatch (you already know he’s playing someone named Archibald or Horace)
Rupert Friend, and Hope Davis, because why not?

It’s giving Clue, Succession, and a Dior perfume commercial — all rolled into one.

BTW, Did You Know?
Last year, Wes Anderson FINALLY won an Oscar (yaaas king), but plot twist — he wasn’t there to accept it. Why? Nobody knows. Probably off somewhere color-grading a sunrise or alphabetizing his collection of corduroy pants.

Anyway, the trailer is out now, so go watch it and prepare to feel artsy, confused, and emotionally unprepared — in the best possible way.
