Simu Liu is back at it again, and this time, he’s causing a social media meltdown with what can only be described as the ultimate thirst trap. On Saturday (October 5), the 35-year-old actor decided to casually drop a shirtless photo that has left fans not only sweating but also scratching their heads in confusion. Why, you ask? Because he cryptically captioned it with one word: “Prepping…”
Prepping for what, Simu? A bodybuilding competition? A career as a human statue? An emergency shirtless convention? The world needs answers, and preferably in high definition.
Naturally, the internet did what it does best—spiral into wild theories. Some optimistic fans immediately jumped to the conclusion that this has to do with Simu’s Marvel alter ego, Shang-Chi. Remember him? The guy who single-handedly (and double-fistedly) kicked butt and took names in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings back in 2021? Yeah, we’ve been waiting for the sequel like it’s the last slice of pizza at a party.
Unfortunately, Simu hasn’t been super forthcoming about when or if he’ll be back to spinning rings and showing off those impressive martial arts moves. Last year, he threw cold water on our dreams by revealing that any sequel would be “a few years out” while Marvel reorganized its massive movie jigsaw puzzle. But now, with this shirtless photo of doom, the people are asking, “Could this be a sign? Is Shang-Chi 2 finally coming?”
While Simu left us in the dark (and by “dark,” I mean a dimly lit, thirst-trappy Instagram post), some hopeful fan commented, “I’m hoping you’re in training for Shang-Chi 2.” Honestly, same.
Will we ever get answers? Will Simu stop playing with our emotions (and our hydration levels) on social media? Only time will tell, but rest assured, we’ll be monitoring his every post like it’s the next Marvel plot leak.
