Simone Biles, a.k.a. the GOAT of gymnastics and the human equivalent of a superhero, just spilled the beans on whether she’s planning to flip her way into the 2028 Olympics. Spoiler alert: the answer is as dramatic as a gymnastics floor routine.
At 27 years young, Simone has a medal collection so heavy it could probably sink a ship—seven golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. Most of us struggle to win a raffle, but Simone casually snagged three golds and a silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics, because why not? Now the question is: will she tumble her way to Los Angeles in 2028, or will she be sitting this one out, sipping iced lattes with her dog?
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Simone dropped some truth bombs that might make you gasp harder than when someone misses the mat during a vault. “It would have to be about, like, life and death,” she said. And no, she’s not talking about the stakes of forgetting to DVR The Bachelor.
“Honestly, I’ve done so much already. Like, what’s left? Just showing off at this point? I’m at a stage where I know when to bow out gracefully,” Simone explained, while simultaneously being the only person who could retire and still do a backflip out the door. “If I go back, I’d be greedy, and nobody likes greedy. Except maybe squirrels.”
She didn’t stop there. Simone went full philosopher on us: “It’s about sacrifices. When I was younger, the sacrifices were, like, missing prom or skipping a college party. Now it’s more like, ‘Do I want to skip starting a family or spending time with my husband?’” Translation: Simone’s debating whether gymnastics or Netflix marathons with her hubby are more worth it. Tough call.
So, will Simone light up the 2028 Olympics? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure: whether she’s on the mat or on the couch, she’ll still be flipping amazing.
