Remember when Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker, decided to go full controversy mode at a graduation speech in May? Yeah, the one where he dished out spicy takes on women, the LGBTQ+ community, abortion rights, and more? Well, Serena Williams hasn’t forgotten, and she brought her A-game to the ESPYs.
During the 2024 ESPY Awards on Thursday night (July 11), Serena, 42, took the stage with the finesse of a comedic ninja, ready to throw some shade. She was joined by her sister, Venus Williams, and presenter Quinta Brunson for what can only be described as a legendary tag-team roast.
As they highlighted the jaw-dropping accomplishments of female athletes, Venus, 44, set the stage, “So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports—because they are sports.”
Enter Serena with the precision of a verbal sniper: “Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you.”
Venus, never one to miss a beat, snapped her fingers in approval like she was auditioning for a Broadway musical. Quinta, 34, added the final flourish, “At all. Like, ever.”
The cameras, likely fearing for their lenses’ lives, did not capture Harrison’s reaction. But we can only imagine him sitting there, questioning his life choices and possibly Googling “how to disappear in plain sight.”
