Serena Williams recently spilled the beans about what it was like to go toe-to-toe with her big sis on the tennis court. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
At 42, Serena has hung up her racket and bid adieu to professional tennis. One major perk of this retirement? No more sibling showdowns with Venus for the ultimate bragging rights.
In a new chat, Serena revealed her true feelings about their on-court battles.
“I didn’t really like it,” Serena confessed to People. “Competing with your best friend? Yeah, not exactly a picnic. It’s like challenging your dog to a game of fetch, but you both want to win the stick.”
While some folks get a kick out of sibling rivalry, Serena is definitely not one of them.
“Some people are like, ‘I want my sibling to go down,’” she explained, probably while doing her best evil villain impression. “And I’m over here like, ‘I want her to win too,’ which makes for a very awkward competition. It’s like trying to have a staring contest with yourself in the mirror—confusing and kind of pointless.”
But wait, there’s more drama! Serena teased that their sibling saga will be front and center in an episode of her upcoming docuseries *In the Arena: Serena Williams*, hitting ESPN+ on July 10. So, if you thought the Williams sisters were intense on the court, just wait until you see them in high-definition drama mode.
