Could Taylor Swift waltz into Only Murders in the Building and solve mysteries with her magical song lyrics? Well, if you’re holding your breath, it’s time to exhale and maybe sit down with some calming tea. But, hey, her bestie Selena Gomez was asked anyway, because why not?
If youβve been living under a rock (or perhaps just not obsessively following every move of the worldβs most famous people), Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been BFFs for like, a bajillion years. Theyβve been through it all: music, movies, mystery-solving TV showsβ¦ well, maybe not that last one. Yet.
So naturally, when someone from E! News was searching for a scoop and decided to ask Selena the million-dollar questionβIs Taylor Swift about to Sherlock her way into the show?βSelena responded in the most Selena way possible: βYouβre hilarious. Sheβs a little busy, you guys.β
Translation: “Taylor is out there conquering the universe, one sold-out stadium at a time. So, no, she probably doesnβt have time to come solve fictional murders.”
But wait, plot twist! Steve Martin, the grandmaster of dry humor and one of the stars of the show, swooped in with his own dramatic interjection: βListen, she calls us every day. Hereβsheβs calling right now. Ahh, Iβll take it later.β
Yes, you heard that right. Steve Martin wants you to believe that Taylor Swift has them on speed dial, just casually blowing up their phones. Maybe theyβre secretly forming a crime-fighting bandβSelena sings, Steve cracks jokes, and Taylorβ¦ well, Taylor just is.
Then Steve got all serious (because even comedians have their moments) and said something very profound about the holy union of Taylor and Selena. He mused, βHereβs how I unite Taylor Swift and Selena. Taylor handles everything perfectly, and so does Selena. Politically, trolls, everythingβshe just seems to have this wisdom about doing things quietly, effortlessly.β Deep, right?
Selena was clearly blown away by Steveβs speech. βI wish I was recording that to send to her,β she said, probably thinking, “This needs to be framed and turned into an inspirational poster.”
And while Taylor Swift isnβt (yet!) cameoing in Only Murders in the Building, the Hulu series has officially premiered! So, if youβre hoping for a pop-star detective crossover, youβll just have to wait. But until then, enjoy Steve and Selenaβs delightful banterβ¦ without Taylor. For now.
