Oprah Winfrey is shutting down rumors that she was paid a hefty sum to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the election. That’s right, she’s claiming she didn’t even get a penny for her campaign efforts.
Fox News, along with several other outlets, reported over the weekend that Kamala’s campaign allegedly slipped Oprah a cool million to help her get the word out. In case you missed it, the report claimed, “Vice President Kamala Harris paid Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions $1 million, just one example of millions the campaign spent on various entertainers during the vice president’s failed bid for president.”
But Oprah wasn’t having any of it. Oh no.
When a TMZ reporter caught up with Oprah on November 11, all the questions were about money. The reporter threw out the burning question: “Is it true they paid you $1 million for the endorsement of Kamala?”
Oprah, in true Oprah fashion, gave the world a look that said, You seriously think I’m THAT easy? She replied with a grin, “Not true. I was paid nothing, ever.” That’s right, Oprah claims her endorsement was worth exactly zero dollars—unless you count all the free Starbucks she probably got during campaign stops.
The timing is especially interesting because, just a day before the election, Oprah was spotted rallying for Kamala in Philadelphia, making her last-ditch effort to energize voters in Pennsylvania. Did it work? Well, considering how that election turned out, let’s just say the voters might have been more into Oprah’s enthusiasm than Kamala’s candidacy.
Guess Oprah didn’t get the memo about winning elections with a big bag of cash. Maybe next time she’ll demand payment in gold-plated avocado toast.
