Omar Apollo Cast In ‘Queer’ By Luca Guadagnino Alongside Daniel Craig

Buy Me A Coffee

Omar Apollo, the 27-year-old maestro of melodious madness (and the guy who made “Drifting” your shower anthem), is now leaping onto the silver screen! That’s right, according to Variety, he’s diving headfirst into Hollywood in Luca Guadagnino’s latest flick, *Queer*. This marks Omar’s acting debut, and let’s just say, the excitement is more real than your friend’s fake Instagram influencer persona.

Joining him are none other than Daniel Craig, the man who can make sipping a martini look like an Olympic sport, and Drew Starkey, who’s probably still trying to figure out how he got sandwiched between James Bond and a music sensation. This movie has been brewing longer than your grandma’s secret stew recipe, with whispers of Luca and Daniel’s involvement dating back to 2022. Yeah, it’s been in the oven for a while, and it’s finally ready to be served!

Omar couldn’t keep the excitement bottled up, posting on Instagram, “1st movie with Luca, wow hot ass cast 🪽” (cue the angelic choir and a few eyebrow raises). He didn’t stop there, adding that Luca is his favorite director. Looks like someone’s got a bit of a director crush!

Set your time machines to the 1940s and prepare for a trip to Mexico City, because that’s where this cinematic rollercoaster takes place. Based on William S. Burroughs’ 1985 semi-autobiographical novel, *Queer* follows Lee (played by the ever-suave Daniel Craig), an American who’s chilling with college students and bar owners, surviving on part-time gigs and GI Bill benefits post-World War II. The story is like a wild ride through themes of sex, drug abuse, and unrequited love, with Lee becoming obsessed with Allerton (that’s Drew Starkey, guys), a younger Navy vet who’s as indifferent as a cat to Lee’s dog-like enthusiasm.

The screenplay, crafted by *Challengers* scribe Justin Kuritzkes, is set to premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival from August 28 to September 7. So mark your calendars, because this film is going to be hotter than a jalapeño in the desert!

Meanwhile, Omar’s not just sitting around waiting for his big screen debut. He’s currently rocking his God Said No World Tour. Next up, he’s headed to Japan with shows in Tokyo on July 25 and Yuzuwa on July 26. After that, he’s taking a well-deserved break before hitting the road again in North America, starting on August 20 in Indianapolis, right in his home state of Indiana.
