Miley Cyrus is back and she’s bringing all the feels with her new tear-jerker tune, “More to Lose” — aka the song you didn’t know you needed to cry to while dramatically staring out the window like you’re in a sad indie film.
In a surprise drop that happened at a time only insomniacs, night owls, and people scrolling TikTok in bed could appreciate (read: Friday at ungodly o’clock), Miley casually yeeted a brand new ballad into the world. And yes, it’s off her upcoming album Something Beautiful, which we can only assume is code for “something that will absolutely wreck your emotions in the prettiest way possible.”
But wait — it gets better. Earlier this week, Miley showed up like the pop fairy godmother she is at a fancy lil’ screening in NYC’s Metrograph Theater. She hosted a top-secret VIP event for her top Spotify fans (jealous, much?) where she previewed her upcoming visual album and spilled the tea in a cozy Q\&A session. Honestly, the only thing more iconic would’ve been if she rode in on a wrecking ball.
Talking about the inspo for the album, Miley got deep and said:
> “I sing about loss a lot – I always see loss as beautiful, because it’s gotten me to that rainbow.”
BRB, tattooing that on our soul.
Now let’s talk about this new song: “More to Lose” is the musical equivalent of watching the last leaf fall off a tree in slow motion while wearing an oversized sweater and clutching a hot drink. It’s moody, it’s vibey, it’s got that sad girl autumn but in spring energy.
Peep the lyrics that’ll have you texting your ex “just to check in” even though you know better:
“I stay / When the ecstasy is far away / And I pray / That it’s comin’ ’round again / And you say it / But I wish it wasn’t true, oh / I knew someday that one would have to choose / I just thought we had more to lose.”
Like… excuse me? Did Miley just read our diary?
Oh, and the music video? Chef’s kiss. Emotional. Gorgeous. Slightly devastating. Basically, it’s the kind of content we pretend not to cry over while watching in full screen with headphones on.
So go stream “More to Lose” and prepare to feel things. Miley said sad, sparkly, and introspective is IN this season.
