Oh, brace yourselves for some tragic news! Bernard Hill, the man who made us all feel like we were sailing on the Titanic or riding alongside hobbits in Middle-earth, has left this mortal coil. Yep, the actor extraordinaire, aged 79, has bid adieu to our world.
According to his trusty agent Lou Coulson, Bernard took his final bow in the wee hours of a Sunday morning. Cue the melodrama, cue the sorrow, cue the impending family statement.
And as if to add a somber symphony to this theatrical exit, singer and actress Barbara Dickson took to the digital stage to confirm the news. Remembering their time together in the gloriously titled “John Paul George Ringo and Bert” (sounds like a Beatles reunion gone awry), she hailed Bernard as a stellar performer. It seems even the stars are shedding a tear for Benny.
Of course, Bernard didn’t just hobnob with hobbits and steer ships into icebergs. No, siree! He also graced our screens as Yosser Hughes in the gritty drama series “Boys from the Blackstuff.” Talk about range—from fantasy kingdoms to working-class woes, Bernard did it all.
So, let’s raise a glass to this titan of the screen, this king of Rohan, this captain of the Titanic. Farewell, Bernard Hill, may you find yourself in a realm where the seas are calm, the battles are won, and the hobbits are forever frolicking.
It’s with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill. We worked together in John Paul George Ringo and Bert, Willy Russell marvellous show 1974-1975. A really marvellous actor. It was a privilege to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny x#bernardhill pic.twitter.com/UPVDCo3ut8
