Lewis Hamilton just lapped everyone at the Met Gala. While some celebs were busy fighting for a seat at Anna Wintour’s glittery table of judgment, Lewis said, “Nah, I’ll bring my own damn table—AND make it iconic.”
Yes, that’s right. The 40-year-old Formula 1 legend, fashion killa, and walking GQ spread went full Beyoncé and bought his own Met Gala table in 2025. Estimated cost? A light and breezy $350,000. Pocket change if you’ve won seven world championships and also have cheekbones sharp enough to slice salami.
But this wasn’t just a flex—this was a full-blown tribute. Lewis used his coin to spotlight and honor Black women who are rewriting the rules of fashion, art, and culture while looking drop-dead fabulous doing it.
So, who did he bring to his table of greatness? Buckle up, because the guest list was so elite it could’ve solved world peace and invented a new skincare line:
- Lauryn “I’ll show up late and you’ll thank me” Hill
- Regina “I act, I direct, I slay” King
- Jordan Casteel, the painter who could probably capture your soul in 3 brushstrokes
- Ming Smith, photography royalty and actual legend
- Adrienne Warren, Broadway powerhouse and vocal slayer
- Danielle Deadwyler, the Oscar-level actress whose emotional range has emotional range
- Lorna Simpson, visual artist and brainiac queen
- Radhika Jones, the editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair, aka the woman who decides what’s hot and what’s… not invited.
In Lewis’s own words (which he probably wrote in a very expensive notebook made of recycled racecar leather), “You can’t talk about Black dandyism, Black art, or Black aesthetics without shouting out the Black women who shaped it all.” PREACH.
He continued, “This year, I wanted to be surrounded by brilliance. These women are artists, thinkers, visionaries—and their presence is the real red carpet.”
And honestly? The man understood the assignment, did extra credit, and turned it in a week early wearing custom Burberry.
This isn’t even the first time he’s gone full fairy godfather at the Met. Back in 2021, he dropped a similar amount of cash to spotlight emerging Black designers—because Lewis doesn’t just drive fast, he champions fashion with purpose.
As for the theme this year? Think royal, spiritual, and so extra you could cry. Lewis called it an homage to “ivory, cowrie shells, and ancestral drip,” basically. He described it as “royalty, spirituality, and sacred power of adornment”—translation: fashion so deep, it might summon your ancestors.
“I’m grateful to The Met, the Costume Institute, Grace Wales Bonner, and the other co-chairs,” he said. “We’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, we’re seen.”
Mic drop. Cape swish. Tires squeal off the Met steps.
So next year, when people ask who won the Met Gala, just say: “Lewis Hamilton, and it wasn’t even a race.”
