Gwen Stefani, the ageless queen of ska-pop and red lipstick, is dishing on her whirlwind romance with husband and cowboy extraordinaire, Blake Shelton. Itโs a love story for the ages, starring two The Voice coaches, a lot of flannel, andโwait for itโgardening.
Hereโs the backstory: Gwen, 55 (yes, sheโs still out here looking like sheโs in her 30sโteach us your ways, Gwen), married Blake, 47, in 2021 after her divorce from Gavin Rossdale. Gavin, for those who need a refresher, is the guy from Bush whose biggest hits you probably screamed along to in the โ90s. Anyway, Gwenโs post-divorce life wasnโt just about crying into her eyeliner. Nope, she found herself a country boy with dimples, and the rest is history.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Gwen dropped this nugget of wisdom about her heartbreak glow-up:
โMeeting Blake felt like a second chance at life,โ she shared, probably while wearing a bedazzled plaid shirt. โWhen my family fell apart, it was catastrophic. Like, where do you even go from there? But then Godโbeing the incredible matchmaker He isโwas like, โHere, have this 6-foot-tall cowboy who loves you AND knows how to barbecue.โโ
But wait, it gets better. Gwen revealed that their love story has rootsโliteral ones. Apparently, they bonded over gardening. Yes, gardening. Forget candlelit dinners or steamy dance-offs; these two fell head over heels while digging in the dirt.
โDuring the pandemic, we found this ancient building on our land in Oklahoma,โ Gwen explained. โThere were these purple irises growing thereโlike, ancient irises, planted centuries ago. I was like, โWow, this is a metaphor for our love,โ and Blake was probably thinking, โCool, flowers.โโ The moment was so profound it inspired Gwen to write a song called โPurple Irises,โ which Blake loved so much he sang on it.
Now, letโs talk about Gwenโs accidental foray into country music. Before Blake, her knowledge of the genre was limited to โthat twangy stuff with cowboy hats.โ But now? Sheโs fully immersed, thanks to her hubbyโs influence.
โIโd love to do a country duets album with Blake,โ she gushed. โI mean, I had no idea who he was before we met, but now Iโm like, โWow, heโs really good at this whole singing thingโand also so humble about it.โ Honestly, itโs annoying how humble he is. Like, sir, accept your greatness.โ
Gwen Stefani is living her best life, planting flowers, singing duets, and proving that even ska queens can find love in a honky-tonk world. If this isnโt a modern fairy tale, we donโt know what is.
