Donald Trump’s team is gearing up for a legal showdown over an upcoming biopic that just made its flashy debut at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Picture this: Sebastian Stan, rocking a combover and a scowl, strutting around as The Donald. Yeah, it’s that kind of movie.
So, what’s got Trump’s camp all riled up? Well, according to Variety, they’re crying foul over what they call “blatantly false assertions” in the film. Trump’s campaign’s chief spokesperson, Steven Cheung, didn’t mince words. “We’re filing a lawsuit to tackle these outrageous fabrications from these so-called filmmakers,” he huffed. “This trash is pure fiction, sensationalizing lies that have been debunked longer than Trump’s ties.”
Cheung wasn’t done yet. He went on to say, “This is just another chapter in the Hollywood elites’ playbook of election interference. They know President Trump is going to swoop back into the White House and trounce their preferred candidate because everything they’ve tried has flopped harder than a bad sequel.”
And wait, there’s more! “This ‘film’ is nothing but malicious defamation,” Cheung fumed. “It shouldn’t even be allowed in the straight-to-DVD bargain bin at a soon-to-be-shuttered discount movie store. It belongs in a dumpster fire, preferably one blazing behind a dilapidated strip mall.”
So, what’s all the fuss about? The movie dives into Trump’s attempts to build his real estate empire in New York during the ’70s and ’80s, with a side plot involving his infamous lawyer, Roy Cohn, portrayed by Jeremy Strong. Sounds like a riveting business saga, right? Well, hold your horses.
Variety spills the tea: the film features some rather, shall we say, unflattering scenes. Picture Trump popping amphetamine pills, getting liposuction, and undergoing surgery to remove his bald spot. Oh, and the pièce de résistance? A highly controversial scene where he allegedly throws his then-wife Ivana (played by Maria Bakalova) to the ground and assaults her. Yikes!
With Trump’s team ready to unleash their legal eagles, this movie’s off-screen drama might just outshine the on-screen antics.
