Demi Moore, queen of the 90s, ageless wonder, and potential vampire (we have questions), is basking in the glory of her Oscar-nominated horror flick The Substance—and she’s just as surprised as we are.
The 62-year-old icon stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday (February 4) to dish on her latest role as Elizabeth Sparkles (yes, that’s really the character’s name—no, she is not a unicorn).
“This movie is absolutely insane, but in a deep, artistic way,” Demi explained, probably fighting the urge to say WTF was I thinking? “It’s about our obsession with perfection and the way we compare ourselves to others—so basically, it’s Instagram: The Movie.”
But despite the chaos of the film, Demi took her role very seriously. “It was my job to keep it grounded so we could really lean into the wild, bonkers stuff,” she said, which is Hollywood-speak for “I had to act normal while everyone else lost their minds.”
And while most horror movies leave audiences screaming, The Substance has people running to the theaters—and the critics are actually loving it. “I feel so lucky to be in a movie that people want to see and that critics don’t totally roast,” Demi added, possibly glancing around for hidden cameras to make sure this isn’t some elaborate prank.
Fashion alert: Demi rocked a Schiaparelli dress, because even when discussing a horror film, she remains effortlessly glamorous.
